TRASH at festival in Vilnius 2013

Creative recycling is a hot topic during the festival “Different Theatre for Children” in Vilnius January 2013.

Memory Wax and TRASH will represent Sweden at the festival “Different Theatre for Children” in Vilnius January 15th until 20th. Norway is represented by theater Avant garden and Katja Lindenberg and Denmark by AabenDans. The festival is organized by Menu SPAUSTUVE with support from the Nordic Culture Fund. After each performance, workshops will take place on the subject recycling. More information about the festival

 

Still Shivering to Birmingham

Now we are soon off to Birmingham in the UK! Among 527 applications Still Shivering were, along with 15 other works from different countries, selected to participate in the BE Festival! The festival takes place 2-6 of July and Memory Wax will also during these days participate in various workshops and discussions. Going on tour with Trash

In may 2014 Memory Wax will go on tour with Trash. The performance is focusing on creativity and recycling. With 17 school performances we will visit Oskarshamn, Vimmerby, Emmaboda, Nybro and Löddeköpinge.

Transitos Habana – Scandinavian Cultural Days in Havana, Cuba 13th -25th of May 2013!

Memoy Wax presents together with the Cuban dance company Danza Teatro Retazos a wide program of performances and workshops by scandinavian artists at las Carolinas in Havana. Participants for this year is dancer and choreographer Lydia Wos from Skånes Dansteater, dancer and choreographer Alma Söderberg, lighting designer Johan Söderberg, visual artist Danilo Stankovic, the electronic music group Lur, Teater Sagohuset och Memory Wax. During two festival weeks five swedish performances and one concert are shown, as well as a big amount of workshops, collaborations with local artists.

Parc in Motion – performance in Folkets Park 19th & 20th of June!

A vibrating, poetic walk-around performance where modern dance meets the green, summerwarm parc. International and local artists present a varied program with dance and music, created specifically for Folkets Park. Bring the whole family and experience the strength of the dance, with the trees, the grass, the water and the urban atmosphere as a magic set!

Inaguration of “Spectral Self Container”, Oct 10th

Memory Wax and the musicians Mika Forsling and Erik Rask (Lur) makes a site-specific music-dance piece at the inaguration of the colorful artwork “Spectral Self Container” by Matti Kallioinen. There will also be opening speech by the President of the City Council Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh and Sparbanksstiftelsen Öresunds chairman Lars Andersson, an art reflection by the art critic Måns Holst-Ekström and some words from the artist Matti Kallioinen himself.

Rooms & Still Shivering on tour

DANCING CITIES at dance film festival

Dancing Cities is a film were four european cities are presented with contemporary dance as a red tread. Each city involves a local dance company – Memory Wax in Malmö, La Intrusa in Barcelona, ​​Tanja Raman in Swansea and Ubi Danza in Genua. The film shows the similarities and differences in public spheres and in social life in Europe. Iconic locations are mixed with more familiar places. A poetic journey that brings us closer to the people and the geographical locations and allows the viewer to experience the urban architecture in a new way. Johanna Jonasson from Memory Wax will be introducing the film. The film is presented on the 21 of Nov 18.00 at Dansstationen, Malmö as part of the festival Dancing in the dark – a Dance Film Festival in Malmö and Lund 21-23 of Nov.

Trash to Beirut within the project “Making Change”

Our performance Trash has been invited by Khayal Arts & Education in Lebanon and Svenska Assitej  to participate in the project “Making Change”. The focus of the project is different exchanges of professional theater for children and young between Lebanon and Sweden. Between 4th to 10th of February 2014, Memory Wax will present performances and give several workshops at the Sunflower Theatre in Beirut.

New Years Workshop with the City of Malmö

On New Years Eve 2014 the City of Malmö, with Memory Wax and the organisation “Återskapa” held an outdoors New Years Masquerade for children in Magistratsparken. The children were guided through discovering identity, community and togetherness through dancing together and making masks together. The city counted around 4000 people who visited the park during the day and the families with children were happy to celebrate New Years with an artistic experience also for the very youngest.

Premiere of Possible Impossible

Memory Wax celebrates its 10 year anniversary in 2014 by making a large co-production with our long time partner in Cuba; Danza Teatro Retazos – a project we have been longing to fulfill! It is our biggest production to date. The 8 dancers are currently rehearsing on Cuba, preparing for the premiere that will take place at Inkonst in Malmö on the 26th of march. After 4 performances in Malmö the tour will continue in the south and west of Sweden before the ensemble flies back to Cuba to perform at Transitos Habana in May.

As part of our 10th anniversary 2014, we wanted to bring back our children show Shadowlands again. Now we can present a tour in Skåne and Blekinge–Kronoberg, 42 school and public performances. Five years ago our performance ABC premiered at Barnens scen in Malmö and now we are back for guestperformances 3rd-5th of March. The dancers accompany the audience into an exciting adventure in letter land! Through a multidimensional and imaginative presentation you will take part of a magic experience! ABC is primarily intended for children between 5 to 9 years old, but the younger siblings, older cousins and friends of all ages that have been engaged and thrilled by the show are countless. “Better then cinema” we have been told! Now in November we start a collaboration with the Lovisa School and Svenshög School in Lund in a Creative School project with the focus on our performance Trash and its theme recycling. In the first step, the students themselves create a self-portrait of garbage (clean) that they bring from home. Thereafter, all go to Malmö to see the show at Barnens Scen and then Memory Wax will re-visit the schools, where they will engage the students in movement workshops based on the idea and the theme of recycling! Looking forward seeing you all!

Americapremiere of Crisálida! 15th of April!

In the dance performance Crisálida Memory Wax from Sweden and Danza Teatro Retazos from Cuba explores the borderland between the desire for freedom and the need of belonging.

The American premiere takes place on the 15th of April in Havana, Cuba, during the festival Habana Vieja: Ciudad en movimiento. Performances will be shown also on the 24-26 of April at Teatro Las Carolinas during our festival Transitos Habana – Scandinavian Cultural Days. In June the dancers travel to Sweden to have the European premiere on the 13th of June in Malmö followed by shows at summer festivals. Read more about Crisálida here!

TRANSITOS HABANA 2019 for children and youth

Tránsitos Habana will be arranged on the 18-23 of March with focus on children and youth. Together with Danza Teatro Retazos we invite choreographer Claire Parsons to work in residency. This is the first swedish dance residency, supported by the Swedish Arts Grants Committee´s International Dance Program, to be arranged in Cuba. Memory Wax and Danza Teatro Retazos will also present the collaboration and the performance Shapes, that will have premiere in Sweden on September 19th.

Activities for youth this summer

This summer we welcome 20 youngster from the City of Malmö’s project Ung i sommar, summer activities for youth. During their one month practice they will try out how it is to work as a professional dancer and learn how to create a performance together. Workshop leaders: Daniel Staley and Jonas Örknér. Finally workshops

For the next two weeks we finally get to meet children at several schools in Malmö. We do both our Dance of the Day workshop in collaboration with the Performing Arts Section (Sektion Scenkonst), City of Malmö, and ABC workshops at Höjaskolan. The pupils get to meet the workshopleaders Daniel Staley and Jonas Örknér. We are so looking forward to this!

In collaboration with Landskrona municipality, we play five performances at Ungdomens hus in Malmö 3-5th of May. Then we will premiere our first outdoor performance of Inside Out in Kävlinge on May 7th and we will end this weekly tour at the wonderful Valfisken in Simrishamn, 9th of May.

Dance in Folkets Park

The 17 th of May, the City of Malmö is arranging several activities for about 800 preschool children in Folkets Park. The children can experience music, dance and circus etc. during three intense hours. Fantastic! We are dancing in the pond at 9.30, 10.30 and 11.30. See you there!

On the 18th of May, we participate with an excerpt from our performance My Little Big Room on Region Skåne’s inspiration day – With words, the world grows. A day for everyone who works to promote language and reading in Skåne for young children’s language development. A day filled with workshops, dance and exchange of experiences. Here, together with Svedala and Ystad’s libraries, we will present our collaboration on the project Experimental Track, with dance at the libraries in the spring of 2022.

Tránsitos Habana in Cuba

Finally, it’s time for the festival again, 23-29th of May 2022, after a break due to the pandemic. We start the program with collaborations and workshops in schools in old Havana with artists from Scandinavia and Cuba and end the week with performances and activities for the whole family. On the 27th, there will be an inauguration ceremony with two photo exhibitions provided by the Swedish Embassy, which also supports the festival.

The autumn tour of My Little Big Room, began on September the 6th at Simrishamn’s library. Now we have played for children and adults at Lund’s, Kävlinge’s, Löddeköpinge’s and Veberöd’s libraries, both public performances and for preschools. PREESCHOOLS IN KRISTIANSTAD

31st of January, is the start of a longer tour of our children performance My Little Big Room in Kristianstad municipality. Around 2 400 preschool children will meet Daniel Staley and Jonas Örknér during the spring at Kulturhuset Barbacka and in libraries around the municipality.

The 20th of June, we had a team day with our colleagues. We visited the Ekocity/The Roof garden in Augustenborg with a guided tour by the Green Roof Institute for inspiration for upcoming projects.
We look back on a packed spring semester with many great and developing meetings with over 100 performances of both Inside Out and My Little Big Room and 50 workshops. Many thanks to all colleagues and partners. Have a great summer!

Skåne Stadsmission, school starts!

In Rörsjöpark in Malmö from 1 pm, 10th of August, Skåne Stadsmission has activities in the park for children and youth before school starts. School backpacks are distributed, hotdogs and other goodies are offered! Memory Wax dances Inside Out on the grass. Now we keep our fingers crossed that it doesn’t rain!

Språkstart Halland

On the 23rd of August we participate with My Little Big Room at Språkstart Halland’s inspiration day with a focus on possible collaborations with libraries and dance. Also taking part is Anna Lundqvist Nilson, library developer at Region Skåne, who talks about the work that has been done in Skåne and our collaboration with language development projects (Bokstart) and dance in Svedala and Ystad municipalities. Looking forward to panel discussions and talking about dance as a language stimulating force with its wordless expression.

Södra Sverige Dans

Riksteatern Skåne and Danscentrum Syd have together created a new biennial and meeting place for dance – Södra Sverige Dans. Last year we participated with our performance Shapes and at the conference this year we present our regional development project WE HERE NOW. Based on different perspectives and through speakers from the entire dance field, what exists, what is being done and how we can come together to move forward and beyond, is made visible. 30-31 January at the High Court in Malmö.

Creative School Project

For one week in February we are moving to Öland! In collaboration with Torslunda school, we carry out a creative school project with both workshops and performances. The students, from 1st to 6th grade, will all get to see the performance Inside Out and then do workshops together with the dancers during the rest of the week. The school’s motto is “health and learning” and in the project we focus on to dare and try new things together.

Performing Arts Days in Västra Götaland

On April 17, Big Dot Little Dot was presented at the Performing Arts Days for children and young people in Kulturhuset Bergsjön. Olo, Rumiko and Liv were there and performed an excerpt from the show and met a lot of nice producers and organizers.

Big Dot Little Dot in Svedala and Bara

Week 16 and 17 Big Dot Little Dot is played in Svedala and Bara. In the picture Rumiko and Olo are captured in happy preparation before the performance in Svedala. It’s fun to be back in one of the places where the show was developed, with the help of Svedala municipality’s library and their project “Read with all senses” – a project that aims to investigate how children’s language and imagination can be nourished by stories and experiences.

Tránsitos Habana

May 25 – June 1 it´s time! Then we present the 9th edition of the festival and the international cultural exchange Tránsitos Habana – Scandinavian Culture Days in Cuba. This year in collaboration with ASSITEJ World Congress and Young Dance Network. Tránsitos Habana will host activities in ASSITEJ’s official program as well as presenting our own program. The program includes workshops, performances, meetings and talks as well as family activities with participating artists from Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Mexico, Poland, Spain, Sweden and Germany.

SUMMERTIME

Welcome to Dansstationen on September 6 for the premiere of Playground – an evocative and life-affirming dance performance that explores group dynamics and the meaning of play. In harmony with captivating moments, the joy of movement and changing everyday objects, we break fixed patterns and invite new encounters, new opportunities. Then the tour continues in collaboration with Ängelholms Riksteaterförening, Dans i Nord and 14 municipalities in Norrbotten, Ystad Cultural Program for youth, SEGNI New Generations festival in Italy and Danza Xixón in Spain.

Big Dot, Little Dot – October

The autumn tour of Big Dot, Little Dot starts at Lund’s city library on October 12 and then takes us to Dunkers Kulturhus in Helsingborg, Sjöbo library, Vara concert hall and Snapphanehallen in Knislinge. See more information in the column on the right. There will be both family performances and school performances, accessible to everyone. We have two lovely teams on tour: Rumiko Otsuka and Jonas Örknér as well as Margherita Pascariello who also dances with Jonas Örknér.

Dans i Nord – Moving Norrbotten

Now we have almost finished playing all the performances of Playground in Norrbotten (in the north of Sweden) in collaboration with Dans i Nord and the regional tour Moving Norrbotten. It has been intense weeks, with both school and evening performances, almost a month in total, with fantastic meetings between cultures and people in 14 municipalities. The dancers from the Cuban dance company Danza Teatro Retazos and we have received a huge boost of inspiration from this international cultural exchange. Warm thanks!

Playground to Italy and Spain

Playground plays on October 16 for 400 students at Ystad theater in collaboration with Ystad municipality and their cultural program for children and youth. We are very much looking forward to this as we also have audience discussions after each performance. These will be the last performances in Sweden before we go on to the SEGNI New Generations Festival in Italy and to the festival Danza Xixón 2024 in Spain.

My Little Big Room

We are touring with three shows this autumn and one of them is our little gem My little big room which pops up in different places. Look out for performances in both Hjärup, Lund, Hylte and the municipalities of Halmstad and Varberg. It will be a fond reunion with the dancer Daniel Staley.

In November, we play Big Dot, Little Dot at our home stage Barnens scen and at Dansstationen in Malmö. These days we celebrate a little bit extra! At Barnens scen on November 3, there will be a workshop in the foyer after the performance on the theme dots with different types of materials. After the performance at Dansstationen on November 9, you will get a craft bag with you home. More opportunities to see the performance in Skåne this month: at Ängelholm’s library and at Medborgarhuset in Staffanstorp! See you there!

My Little Big Room and Daniel Staley are visiting Kungbacka Municipality on March 28-30! See you at Hällevik’s meeting place in Förlanda, Fyren Cultural Center and the Maritime Museum in Onsala. The children will receive a postcard after the performance so you can continue the conversation and continue dancing at the preschool or at home.

With great gratitude we look back on our 20 years as a company! The anniversary year 2024 has meant many inspiring meetings between cultures and people. Meetings, play and participation have been the focus of our various projects during the year. Our tour work with 125 performances for children, young people and adults in Sweden, Spain, Italy, Germany and Cuba has led to exciting dialogues about dance, emotions and body language. We have also carried out 70 workshops and activities through creative school programs, development projects and the ninth edition of our festival Tránsitos Habana – Scandinavian cultural days in Cuba. Warm thanks to all of you who make this work possible; all colleagues who do such a great work, family, grant contributors, organizers, partners and our dear audience!

My Little Big Room

Now it is time for the last shows of My Litte Big Room this year! Daniel is playing in Halmstad municipality now in the end of November and December 15 – 17 is the time for performances in Varberg municipality. This little gem has played in several libraries over the years and we have been met by a fantastically committed staff. The collaboration with Svedala and Ystad municipality’s library in Region Skåne’s project “Experimentspåret” has opened doors to new thoughts and ideas about the place of the performing arts in the library. With My Litte Big Room, we felt like a book fell off the shelf and came to life.

ABC – workshops

We have just completed a two-week workshop period in collaboration with Svedala municipality schools and Österportskolan in Malmö. Students and teachers met Anna Hagermark in our popular ABC workshops! Here, children and adults get to know the letters and the alphabet through the body in a playful way that opens up new perspectives and ways of getting to know each other.

Big Dot, Little Dot to Gothenburg

Now the tour continues to Gothenburg! First up is Queen Silvia’s Children’s Hospital, which has been working with the theme of dots in different ways for three weeks. There have been games looking for dots in the space, quizzes and workshops inspired by Yayoi Kusama’s artwork and books, etc. The entire department is filled with dots! See the children’s artwork here!
Then we are off to the Museum of World Culture on Saturday and on Sunday we play at House of Possibilitas. At the Museum of World Culture you can take the opportunity to visit “TOGETHER” – an exhibition for everyone about the difficult and fantastic things about living together. There is a room where you can try out dances from different parts of the world!

Language Festival in Folkets park

On May 23rd, the Language Festival for the preschools will be held in Folkets Park and the City of Malmö will be arranging several activities for approximately 1,500 children on site. The children will experience crafts, music, dance, circus, etc. during the day.
We will dance in the splash pool at 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30!

Scensommar Växjö

Still summer in the air but now we’re kicking off the autumn performances! First up is a tour in collaboration with Scensommar Växjö on August 4, 5 and 6. Here we play the outdoor version of Big Dot, Little Dot and we will meet the audience at six different locations in the municipality. Scenography, props, sunscreen and raincoats are packed and the dancers Margherita Pascariello and Olo Tamayo are ready to meet the audience.

Today we participate at Dansstationen’s STOLT FINAL together with Skånes Dansteater, Fabio Liberti, Rachel Tess, Uli Ruchlinski, Maria Naidu, Kroppsklubben, DJ Ranya, Saga Becker, Khamlane Halsackda and Daniel Jeremiah Persson. This special evening Dansstationen invites you on a journey through their twenty years at Palladium, a place they now have to leave. It feels incredibly sad but also important that we all gather on a day like this. This evening Dansstationen says goodbye to the house, but not to the audience. From autumn 2025 they will start showing performances c/o Skånes Dansteater, Inkonst, Bastionen and more!

Young Dance Market

During two intensive days, September 3rd-4th, YDM will present ten Scandinavian dance performances for a young audience. There will be performances for all ages, from the youngest to teenagers, both indoors and outdoors.

Touring in Svedala kommun

So fun to be back in Svedala municipality and play Big Dot, Little Dot for the preschools! It was here that Big Dot, Little Dot was created, in collaboration with Svedala municipality’s library and their project “Read with all senses”. The photo is from when we met reference groups at the libraries in 2023. In 2024, the performance was performed at the libraries and this year we will meet all the preschools in the municipality in the next 14 performances.

September was an intense month of performances with a total of 30 performances, one of which was the premiere of The Papers Swallow. We are so happy now that The Papers Swallow is finally flying on its own and is flying to Hässleholms Kulturhus and Riksteatern Skåne’s showcase: Performing Arts Days for Children and Youth on October 7th.

Welcome to an inclusive dance experience where we explore movement, encounters and creativity beyond borders. Through play, dance, improvisation and collaboration we find new ways to express ourselves and create together – regardless of circumstances or previous experience.

Paper Swallow is part of the programme at the STEP Festival on March 5. STEP is an international dance festival for children and youth in Western Sweden. Paper Swallow to Göteborg

In collaboration with the Museum of World Culture (Världskulturmuseet) and the Gothenburg Primary School Department, we present The Paper Swallow in Gothenburg. On November 14th there will be school performances and on November 15th a public performance. After this performance, the audience can take part in the Vik och Lek! workshop (Fold and Play! workshop). Come and fold your own swallow with origami! Experience the magic together when a piece of paper is transformed into something else!

Fábrica de arte Cubano

Fábrica de Arte Cubano (FAC) is an interdisciplinary cultural center in Havana. It was formerly a cooking oil factory that has now been transformed into a dynamic and creative meeting place. At FAC, music, visual arts, film, dance, design, fashion, theater, and gastronomy come together under one roof. Our performance Playground will be presented here in October.

Residency i Spain

Exciting collaborations underway in Spain! We are currently in residence in Monóvar in collaboration with Ayuntamiento de Monóvar and Teatro Principal. During our stay, we are doing research for upcoming productions and exploring the city through site-specific artistic work.

April is an intense month filled with different projects! Daniel has just traveled to Germany for a two-week tour with My Little Big Room. Schöne Aussicht Festival

Schöne Aussicht Festival takes place on 15–21 May 2026 in Stuttgart, Germany, and is an international theatre festival for children and young audiences with a focus on encounters and artistic exchange. Our co-production Playground (Juegos) with the Cuban dance company Danza Teatro Retazos will be performed on 20 and 21 May. During the festival week the entire team will also take part in various cultural exchanges and activities. Looking forward!

Outdoor premiere
