Still Shivering

Absurd observations in a maze of emotions

The piece Still Shivering twists and turns intimate questions about our person. A spectrum of human emotions is reproduced and expressed through extreme or subtle changes in body and appearance. Between mask and reality, the individual’s various personalities are exposed and challenged. When does the grotesque become beautiful? Do we allow sadness to be laughable? What do we see and perceive in a person?

Among over 500 applications, Still Shivering was, along with 15 other works from different countries, selected to participate in the BE Festival in Birmingham, UK. The festival took place 2-6 of July and during these days Memory Wax also participated in various workshops and discussions. It was a great, creative week with many new exciting meetings! In the autumn of 2013, Memory Wax made a tour in cooperation with Vass-scenkonst som vågar! to four towns/cities in Skåne, with a whole evening containing two solo performances: Still Shivering and Rooms. The performances elaborate with intimate questions concerning the individual and together they provide a good insight into Memory Wax’s stage language, it evocative and poetic, but also unexpected expressions. The tour began in Simrishamn and continued to Lund, Landskrona and Kristianstad. Each evening ended with an audience conversation.

Still Shivering was supported by the Malmö Culture Committee, Region Skåne, The Arts Council, The Swedish Arts Grants Committee and The Barbro Osher Pro Suecia Foundation.
A special thanks to Skånes Dansteater for the residency during the creation process.
